Population Of Kota | Kota Population 2019:- Kota was formerly known as Kotah. Kota is located about 250 kilometres south of the state capital, Jaipur. Kota has a population of over 2.5 million, it is the 3rd most populated city of Rajasthan. Kota is the 46th most populated city of India. Kota is a major coaching hub in India for competitive examination preparations and Kota has many engineering and medical coaching institutes.

In 2k13, Kota was ranked the 2nd most livable city in the Rajasthan (after Jaipur) and forty-first in India among 50 cities. Kota was also included among 98 Indian cities for Smart Cities Mission initiated by Indian PM Narendra Modi in 2k15. Kota is popular among the youth of India for its coaching institutes for engineering and medical entrance examinations. Economy Of Kota

Kota is the trade centre for northern India region in which cotton, wheat, coriander, millet, and oilseeds are grown; industries include cotton and oilseed milling, dairying, textile weaving, distilling, and the manufacture of metal handicrafts. Kota also has a big industry of stone polishing, used for the floor and walls of residential and business buildings. Since the last 15 years, Kota has emerged as an Education hub of the country as producing excellent results in IIT-JEE and medical entrance exams.

Many textile shops in Kota sell different varieties of Kota Doria. These saris have become one of the trademarks of Kota.

The fine-grained variety of limestone quarried from Kota is known as Kota stone, with rich greenish-blue and brown colours. Kota stone is tough, non-water-absorbent, non-slip, and non-porous.

Kota is one of the industrial hubs in northern India area, with cement, chemical, engineering and power plants based there. Kota power plants show annual growth of 15-20 % due to their strategic locations.

 

Education

Kota has many govt and private schools in the Kota city, most of which are affiliated with either CBSE or Board of Secondary Education, Rajasthan and follow a 10+2 plan.

Kota is especially known in India as a centre for preparation of various competitive examinations through which the students can get admissions in various engineering and medical colleges in India. Kota has more than 40 large coaching institutes for aspiring students trying to pass entrance exams for IIT (Indian Institutes of Technology), through the JEE, other engineering colleges and prominent medical colleges of India.

Kota has emerged as a popular coaching destination for competitive exams preparation and for-profit educational services. The education sector of Kota has become one of the major contributors to Kota’s economy. Kota is popularly described to as “the coaching capital of India”. Over 1.5 lakh students from India come every year towards Kota for preparation of various exams such as IIT-JEE, NEET-UG and AIIMS etc. The annual turnover of the Kota coaching industry is about ₹1500-₹1600 crore.

Kota as a coaching hub started in 1985 when Mr Vinod Kumar Bansal set up Bansal Classes that eventually became Bansal Classes Private Limited. Some of his instructors started their own institutes making Kota a major educational centre.

In the past few years, reports of students committing suicide in Kota have increased. As per reports, students feel depressed, stressed and get pressurized in order to crack their target competitive exam. As per the National Crime Records Bureau report of 2014, 45 suicide cases of students were reported in Kota. In the year 2015, 17 such cases were found. For the same reason, many coaching centres have also appointed counsellors to help students.
